The wing folds into the spindle, passes through a pre-drilled hole and opens to machine the front or back face. The mechanism has one moving part.

Basic principle
The folding wing
With the spindle turning counter-clockwise, the cutting wing folds in as the tool passes through the hole. On the far side, the wing opens. Machining is done clockwise. Afterwards the tool is fed clear of the workpiece and withdrawn while turning counter-clockwise.
Chip control
Internal coolant
Coolant through the tool breaks and flushes away chips and cools the spindle and wing. Internal coolant is standard on cylindrical spindles for holes from Ø 10 mm.
Uptime
Quick wing change
The cutting wing can be changed quickly, which keeps production downtime short.
Stability
Guide pins and pilot
The pilot is matched to the hole diameter and helps the tool take up the cutting forces. Wings from 30 mm have a guide pin for stability at low speeds and in horizontal milling.
Material
Wings and cutting grades
HSS wings are available for smaller sizes and indexable inserts for larger ones. ISO K20 is standard. For HSS wings in sizes 020 and 030, brazed K20 tips are available, as well as P40 for steel.
Mounting
Matched to the machine
For holes from Ø 10 mm, cylindrical spindles have a Weldon shank to DIN 1835B and internal coolant. A Morse taper is available as an alternative. The tools are used in both manual and automated machines.
How to read the part number
The part number states the design and dimensions of the tool. Use the tables in the catalogue when ordering a spindle, wing or complete tool.
