Erix Tool About us

Rooted in shipbuilding

Ture Johansson developed and patented the folding-wing tool at the Eriksberg shipyard in 1972. Erix Tool then took the invention to industry around the world.

Eriksbergs Mekaniska Verkstad

The story begins at the Eriksberg shipyard in Gothenburg, which opened its first quay in 1871. The yard was known as “Torpet” and grew into a workplace for thousands of people.

1972

Ture Johansson patents the tool

Inventor Ture Johansson developed and patented the back spotfacing tool in 1972. The folding wing is still the basic principle of every Erix tool.

1977

The shipyard crisis and the start of Erix Tool

By 1977 the shipyard crisis had cost more than 5,000 people at Eriksberg their jobs. Among them was managing director Per Alsén, who some time later founded Erix Tool AB.
